5-Axis CNC Router – Main Structure
Year: 2021
Project
CNC machines are common in modern industry. This system has a major role in the field of high-performance robots and milling machines. In the field of advertising, cinema and design – so-called routers are widely used. The most commonly used machine types are 3-axis and 4-axis routers. The ultimate goal of this project is to make a “5-axis CNC router” type machine. The machine is intended for milling large-sized models – making sculptures, different types of non-standard products and models for molds. It started with sketches and drawings, followed by building a 3D model of the main structure.
Main Structure of 5-Axis CNC Router – 3D Model
Development
In its first phase, the project is aimed at building a main design of the structure. An initial version of the router’s main structure and specification of its functional zones was reached. The current dimensions of the machine are: length of the router – 6000 mm; router width – 4050 mm; router width, with side supports – 5720 mm; the height of the router at the maximum elevation of the Z-axis – 4400 mm. All zones in the router will undergo changes and upgrades due to the specific selection of structure details, parts and components. A number of them are missing, considering the phase in which the development is. In the design of the main structure of the router, a selection of various types of main details necessary for the body of the metal structure was carried out. A selection of steel profiles with a square section was carried out, the dimensions of which were adapted in the modeling of the 3D model – varying with the dimensions of the profile from 50/50 mm to 150/150 mm. During the production of the stationary module of the structure, it is planned to have a concrete filling in the core of the steel profiles. For the automation, components of the HIWIN company will be used – linear guides, and the spindle motor will be of the HERTZ company. At this stage, the development of the router is at the project level and is undergoing development – optimizing each of the functional zones and adding new details, components and equipment.
