This is often considered a specific type of product that is fundamentally different from other types of chairs, due to a number of requirements and needs that it must meet – purpose of the activity performed, pronounced ergonomics in operation and a suitable structure that provides a necessary set of functions. Of course, the range of subtypes of desk chairs is not small, in view of their use, specific purposes, environment and space – administrative buildings, office buildings, warehouses, houses, apartments, etc. The main activities that the desk chair covers are – writing, reading, conversation and working with a computer. This also determines the specific positions of the body in administrative work, negotiations, design, playing games and all sorts of activities in the modern lifestyle that involve working with a computer. This project is aimed at a niche type of chair, imposed by the contemporary trends of experimentation with seats with shell structures – product adaptations, through transfer from one sphere to another. Subtypes of desk chairs, primarily aimed at leisure and various hobbies, without excluding other activities, arising from personal choice, individual preferences and needs of the client.
Variant of Desk Seat, without Office Chair Mechanism Installed – Pre-Production Prototype
Development
At its very beginning, the development was oriented towards a product with a concept of a performance product for cars, but gradually acquired another direction – a desk chair; suitable for the interior of an apartment or house, which does not exclude office spaces, in view of modern trends in certain areas of business. The structure of the design is built from a relatively deep shell shape, which does not imply a certain type of movement in it after sitting; there is no adjustment of an individual inclination for leaning – in the zone from the neck to the waist. The production of the main model for the mold started with a process of building a polyurethane model, formed with polyester putty and injection putty; the surface of the model was painted before the procedure for making the composite mold. The final product for the pre-production prototype was made of composite materials – fiberglass, polyester resin and gelcoat. The additional plastic accessories were made using the technology of vacuum molding of plastic. For the upholstery of the inner zone of the shell shape, foam and synthetic leather are used, as well as for the additional voluminous accessories – for sitting and leaning. Of course the overall development underwent improvement and upgrade while this pre-production prototype was the initial look of the product. There were different options for what reliefs to build when upholstering the inner area of the seat, as well as additional accessories to it, in order to significantly improve ergonomics. For the lower zone of the seat, a metal adapter was made, consisting of side metal elements and planks, mounted in the side zones of the seat, in built-in planks in the interior of the shell, using fasteners. A variant of a metal foundation was also developed, attached with fasteners to the bottom of the seat shell, for the purpose of assembling rotating and adjustable mechanisms intended for office chairs. Several products were made, intended for youth rooms, mainly for people working on a computer and especially playing computer games. There was also an option to adapt the seat to gaming cockpits and simulators.
