Center Console for Car Dashboard – Mitsubishi

Year: 2011

Project

The car dashboard is made up of functional areas that have a specific purpose. The car dashboard is divided into two main zones, on which the control and comfort of the car depends entirely. In the control zone is the steering wheel and the additional controls located on it, as well as the front located indicators for speed, distance traveled, alarm, etc. The other important zone is the center console, in which are fixed all the minor functions – placement of displays, sound equipment, temperature control, niches for accessories, etc. It is the main focus of this project, which includes the production of a functional panel for the center console of a car dashboard.

Final Variant of a Panel for a Center Console – Final Product – Composite Product

Modification of a Factory Panel and Preparation of a Base for Making a Mold – Main Model – Industrial Clay

Development

The development is aimed at modifying the center console panel of a car dashboard – for a Mitsubishi car. The aim of the development was to create a new panel, adapting new sectors to it. For the modification and production of the main model, the base of the factory panel was used, in which all the necessary zones were formed. With the help of model material (industrial design clay), areas for display, buttons, card reader and other functional sectors were established. Additional parts of the original one were adapted and attached to the new panel – a lighter, a constructive part for a cassette player, a place for an ashtray and elements for mounting to the original car dashboard. Modifications were made to match the display, card reader, cassette holder, lighter and mounting clips. Additional adjustments were made around the periphery of the panel, after which the mounting to the console of the car dashboard was carried out. Industrial designer clay was used to make the main models of the products. For the production of the matrices and the final products were used – glass mat, polyester resin and gelcoat, as well as finishing with polyester putty.
